Having Winn-Dixie by Opal’s side unlocks tons of new discoveries right around the corner, literally. All this takes place in a peaceful town in Florida. Winn Dixie fixes the bond between Opal and her father, also helps Opal get plenty of new friends.
Once Opal meets Winn Dixie, things start happening. She started to be great friends with the Gloria Dump, the kind old “witch” down the block. She starts giving Opal advice on judging people. Wait… let me correct myself, judging people the correct way, with your heart. Opal, meeting new friends helped her be a better person. Opal knows how judge and with that she makes new friends unlocking new secrets she had never heard of before. She eventually loses Winn-Dixie but realizes that he did many good things to help her.
This book shows how the friendship with just one animal unlocks a whole new world for Opal. Winn Dixie lets Opal open up paths for her friends too with Gloria Dump. Winn Dixie ran to Gloria’s yard one day and Opal new Gloria was the wise one. She helped Opal judge with her Heart.
With that advice from Opal, she helped Otis the pet store keeper get more known not being shy. Opal helped the ex-enemy Dewberry Brothers have friendship. The bond between Opal and her father grew. All Because of Winn Dixie.

Because of Winn-Dixie Review
By Vincent Zhang
Do you know what it feels like to get a brand new but stray dog? In the book “Because of Winn Dixie,” author Kate DiCamillo surely makes you feel like that. This book talks about how a little girl India Opal get’s her life change by her new loving dog, Winn Dixie. Once her new dog enters her life, things get more friendlier. She starts meeting new friends and uncovers more about the neighborhood all because of Winn Dixie.
Author Kate DiCamillo makes the reader feel as if they were voting for Opal and in the story with them. Every moment the author makes intense by speaking as if you were right next to Opal and Winn Dixie. Winn Dixie is also the cause of the big party at Gloria Dump’s house. Winn Dixie has good judgement and great things start happening because of Winn Dixie.
Something that I didn’t like about the book is Kate DiCamillo does provide a central problem throughout the whole book. There were only very small problems in the book. There wasn’t any big problem that took Opal the whole book to solve. It was only at the end when Opal had lost Winn Dixie, a problem that was major occurred. Everywhere else in the story is just average life where Opal lives but with Winn Dixie. There was a theme of how an animal can make a difference. For example, Winn Dixie made a difference by making the town more lively. For example, Winn Dixie made Otis not be shy and interact more. If it wasn’t for Winn Dixie Opal wouldn’t have met Otis. Winn Dixie also made a party at Gloria Dump’s house.
Overall, author Kate DiCamillo reaches and makes you feel like you’re in the book with Opal and Winn Dixie. The author develops a strong voice and an exciting adventures with Winn Dixie and Opal and makes the everyday life extraordinary. She makes the ordinary life a wonderful day at the new place where Opal is living, all because of Winn Dixie.
