BOB NO ORDINARY CAT
By Nidhi Sood
I have never been homeless before, but James Bowen makes me feel everything he hears, and everything he sees. James Bowen is the main character in this story along with his cat Bob. They are the best of friends, and when James heads into Angel Island to busk, Bob always goes with him. It seems so perfect, but it wasn’t always this way!
Meet James. He wrote this book to inform people, adopted pets can be amazing, and if you are going (or went) through tough times, pets can sense that, and try to make it better. James Bowen is a homeless man, in London, who used to do drugs, and he used to be a wild young person; until reality set in. When he started to grow up, he needed a job, and a home. If he was doing drugs, no one would hire him. (But anyways) Outside of where he was staying for the night, he found a stray cat with ginger fur. He let the cat inside, hoping it would leave soon, and… lets just say they were the best of friends after that.
One quality I really enjoyed about James and Bob, is they don’t need fancy items to be happy. James made a makeshift lead for Bob out of a shoelace, and Bob still wore it and looked proud about it. Bob and James were truly a great match!
I can tell James and Bob are really “purr-fect” because they stick together no-matter what. One example of this is when James was taking medicine to help stop his battle with drugs, and he felt really awful. At this time, Bob made sure he stayed by James. It was almost if the cat was looking after it’s human, not the human looking after it’s cat.
One major theme (i sense) in this book, is it’s better to adopt animals, rather than buy them. In this book James finds Bob on the streets and takes him in. Now, Bob looks after James as much as James looks after Bob. The both of them were homeless, and I think that is one of the things they bonded over.
In conclusion, Bob is truly no ordinary cat. It is merely fate that brought them together, and their bond could never be broken. If you would like to see more of Bob, read the book!
