Left to right: Us doing an activity called the question ball with Ms. Gail. Our enviormental designed bags on reusable cloth bags [our last class with Ms Gail]
What is the H.E.A.R.T Program?
The Heart Program is a program that promotes Humane Education and helps us make MOGO (Most Good) choices. We learn this through activities and fun. We had the Heart Program for 10 weeks with one of their employees, Ms. Gail. We learned things like puppy mills, child labor, and plastic usage. We learned to use reusable bags and not use plastic bags because they harm marine life. They do bad things and harm the Earth. We learned that we should take a stand and do what's right for the world.
Some activities and what we learned from H.E.A.R.T
During heart, we have made many different items just to spread the word to others. On the top was one of our last lesons whch was creating bag with enviormental logos on them. We also made some posters that wrote some signs like Don't Shop Adopt! We then sort of learned how to lobby the goverment by writing some speeches and some ways to tell the goverment about certain issues. Then, we all decided that we wanted to help the whole community by offering to do somethign enviormentally helpful to help people in the world. This program can really encourage kids to make a difference and cahnge the world. All these activities were really useful and who knows when one of us will change the whole world. Just from this one program.
H.E.A.R.T interview
The Heart Program does it's best to teach us what choices are MOGO (MOST GOOD) and teaches the subject of Humane Ed. students Emily Tan and Emma Muller interview one of HEART's employees, Ms. Gail. HEART stands for Humane Ed Association Reaching Teachers.
INTERVIEW WITH MS.GAIL:
Emily and Emma: Why did you decide to join the HEART program?
Ms. Gail: I love the idea of helping kids who will grow up into adults to solve problems. When the kids grow up they will solve all of the problems that we thought were bad.
Emily and Emma: What motivates you to continue?
Ms. Gail: I get motivated by seeing students who care and kids (like us!) who use the things that were taught to them to help the environment. For example, lobbying, and using recyclable bags.
Emily and Emma: What is the issue that you are most concerned about and why?
Ms. Gail: Factory farm because it has a huge impact on people, animals, and the planet in so many ways.
Emily and Emma: If you were able to choose a different job other than the Heart program, what would it be and why?
Ms. Gail: I would want to teach a program about factory farming. Focusing on factory farming helps people with health problem, can have a huge impact on climate change and can reduce the amount of animals suffering.
Emily and Emma: Which change making choice would you consider as the most efficient and which one is the most effective?
Ms. Gail: Boycotting because I think that the way the world works is that money is the biggest motivator so that you can vote using money.
Emily and Emma: Thank you for your time so we can interview you.
