Catskills Animal Sanctuary Response
Lea Kwok
On June 1, 2015, I went to the Catskills Animal Sanctuary with my class. We learned about the rescued animals and where they came from. We learned about the vegan lifestyle and how there are lots of companies that make vegan food.
We met pigs that were rescued from animal hoarder's and farms. I learned that these pigs had no family and one pigs didn’t even know how to be a pig! But what warmed my heart was when one of the other pigs helped her learn how to be a pig.
We also met cows that were brothers and were saved from having their horns cut off. People cut the horns off because they present a safety threat, but it hurts the cows more than it would hurt someone who got hit by the cows. It would be like cutting your head off, or your legs.
I learned that a vegan lifestyle could be better than eating meat, at times. You don’t necessarily have to kill an animal to eat the meat. There are meats made out of tofu that vegan people eat.
In conclusion, I learned a lot on animal abuse and I saw the conditions of the rescued animals, which were really good. I learned that the people who took care of these animals cared a lot. Some people even volunteered to do this work, which shows how much they care.
