Inconvenient Truth Alternative Response

A fact that surprised me was that within less than 50 years the carbon dioxide level will be off the charts and over 600! This relates to the theme because Al Gore is warning the people of the tragedies that is happening and the outcomes. Another fact that surprised me was that right now CO2 levels are at their highest, over 300! This relates to the theme because Al Gore is talking about how the Earth is in danger and we need to do something. This is 1 of the points he is making to show that. The third fact that surprised me was that there was 1717 tornados in 1 year in the U.S.A! That is a lot of tornados for a year! This relates to the theme because this is also part of what Al Gore has been trying to warn us about and how we need to change this issues.
The fourth fact that surprised me was that for the first time scientists are finding polar bears that are drowning. This is weird because until now polar bears are drowning. I think that Al Gore is also saying that if we don’t do something animals will be dying out and species will become extinct. Another fact that surprised me was that people know about the problem, but don’t do anything, it then just continues to get worse. This is shocking because this is our own planet but no one seems to care. This relates to the theme because this is what Al Gore is talking about how humans need to do something. |
The last fact that surprised me was Al Gore said at the end of the book we defeated totalitarianism and segregation, we landed on the moon, we worked together to bring down communism at our best and we can do this! Everything on this earth is that pale blue dot the size of an ant, is our only home. It is our time to rise again. This surprises me because it doesn’t seem like much but so much has happened and people actually came together and did something. Al Gore makes it is time to rise again sound like humans were in power at one time and did something. This relates to the theme because I think that Al Gore is trying to influence people and make them make a change which relates to the point of people doing something. Al Gore is saying thing to try to make people recognize the problem and so something about it and not be a bystander.

An aspect of the film that showed better than the book was when it talked about if Greenland’s ice melted by somewhat half what would happen to world. In the book it showed pictures of what would happen but it didn’t have that big effect on me. It wasn’t that realistic. Now in the film when I saw the water levels rise I believed and because of the film it was more of an impact on it. I actually was more worried about what would happen to the people and how it would be life changing. Something else that had more of an impact and changed my thinking more was when it showed the scale of Katrina and how quickly it got more intense. This is more of an impact because I can actually see if temperatures keep rising a minor tornado can turn into a serious harmful one.
Something that seemed out of place for me was when Al Gore was talking about his son and when he almost died when he was 6 years of age. I don’t get how it relates unless it has to do with how cars shouldn’t be used because of the tragedy of his son and has a hatred of cars. It says that it changed his life and that is probably why he wanted to warn people about the crisis. Something else that didn’t seem right was when it talked about how Al Gore was raised on a farm and his dad was called breeder of the month. I don’t think this relates unless Al Gore wants to show his love of nature and this is how he started. Something that else that didn’t seem right was when Al Gore talked about a friend and how she smoked and was killed because of smoking. I think that this might relate as how his son and his friend led up to him wanting to make a change. |
The film could be improved by taking out the somewhat irrelevant parts of the movie. I think that it should be shorter because I felt like Al Gore was trying to cover almost all the global problems which is why the film is so long. I think that the most important parts should be included because the film felt a little boring after somewhat 1 hour of it. It was too much information.
