Zoe Weil Reflection
Ayman Rahman
The one thing that I thought stood out the most was when Zoe Weil said that people can either be inspired by a story about a monkey in a rainforest and how the problems were affecting it or they would be inspired by a lot of facts being told like how many acres of rainforest are cut down each year. Also, how many species are in danger of becoming extinct. Zoe also said that most people would be touched by the story because it gets more close to their heart, this makes them feel more inspired. She also said that people would be more touched by the story because the billions of facts would make them feel more close to the person and would sort of make them feel hopeless because they know that there are so many things that are going wrong but they are so sad they can’t fix all of it with just a button.
When she said this, it made me think about how powerful people’s emotions are when they try to save something and motivate others.. When you tell a person about the monkeys, the people who you tell them might feel empathy (or sympathy) for the monkey. The person’s emotions help them change and since they feel empathy or sympathy, they will try to make a difference, and won’t take no for an answer.
In conclusion, this makes me think how we could motivate jt\the public to change the way they think. Stories and things that make them feel empathy for the animals. Though most people won’t listen, we all need to work together to save the environment. As Zoe Weil said: “The world needs Humane Education and that’s what we all need to save our planet. Though we all have different points of view, we all should have the same common goal of saving the environment.”
