The Purr-fect Book!
By Nidhi Sood and Justin Murdock
We’ve never rescued cats or dogs from a animal testing lab, or met a mad scientist named as Dr. Hellburn, but there is one thing that made us feel like we were right there, in the lab, opening the cages for dogs that had their lives on the line, the book Claude and Medea: The Hellburn Dogs by Zoe Weil made us feel like we made a huge difference. The story is about how two brave children from Worthington Elementary School, were inspired by one of their substitute teacher, to get involved, and decided to start to investigate the dog-nappings that were occurring in the neighborhood.
Mrs. Rattlebee (the substitute teacher) was the reason why we loved this amazing book. She didn’t say it directly, but she made it feel like anyone could make a difference; especially kids. She teaches that everybody should have equal rights which includes animals, humans, and the environment. If it weren’t for her, there would be no dog saving and the poor puppy would go.
The theme of the story is probably anyone could make a difference. Claude and Medea used all their might to save the poor puppies from the arsenic test and truly made a change. They did almost anything; they even drove a car! You can’t judge a person of how they look to judge their talents. Just because adults are two times the size of kids and much smarter, doesn’t mean that we’re dummies. i’ll tell you when to publish
Claude and Medea is similar to a book called, “Pie.” Pie is about a girl named Alice, who is mourning the loss of her late aunt Polly. Polly was a huge role-model in Alice’s life, and they were really close. When her Aunt Polly’s old shop, PIE, was broken into, and Aunt Polly’s cat that she left to Alice in her will was catnapped, Alice knew something was fishy, and she had to get to the bottom of it! Alice and her friend Charlie Erdling worked together to figure out who was messing with Alice, and her family. These two books share similar themes and messages, because Claude and Medea saved the animals at Dr.Hellburn’s facility, and Alice and Charlie saved Lardo.
In conclusion, Claude and Medea is an amazing book, that tells the tale of Claude and Medea. Two kids who meet a wacky (but wise) substitute teacher who helps inspire them to make a difference in their community and in their world. In addition, the book proves, kids can make a change! We can also relate this book to another story, by Sarah Weeks, called PIE. They show similar themes and messages. Claude and Medea is a great, inspiring tale, with heart-felt messages that really impact you. If you would like to hear more about Claude and Medea, check out the book!
